01 - 03 July : goodbye Faroes...

01 July

We got up around 1030, I think we were supposed to meet with Costa around 1000, we did not.
But not long after, he rolled in and had a problem with his Rear brake. it seemed like the slave cylinder was almost seized and the return spring...wasn't. Maybe the spring had broken, but we couldn't see or feel it. In between trying to solve this problem, we packed up the tents before 1400 as they were mostly dry and we were supposed to leave camp by 1600.
At 1600, we planned to cook lunch/dinner in the camp kitchen and then head into Torshavn to check out the ancient carved Runes.
At around we cooked (Karsten, Scott, Costa, Ju and myself) then we played dice around the table for a while.
At around 1800, we all headed into Torshavn to the old parliament and searched for the carved runes and sundial, which we eventually found. After making our discovery, we met up with Costa and headed back to the Irish pub for a bevvies and a bit of a relax. Post-beer we headed into the town square for fish-and-chips & burgers. It was bloody good. Then we picked up the bikes and rode over to the ferry port, about 200m.  We checked-in (again a cabin, on the 8th deck) and waited.  The ferry was behind schedule and took about 1.5 hours to off-load it's cargo.  Many (semi-)trailers.
Eventually on board after midnight and were underway around 0100 (supposed to leave around 2230)
When securing the bikes, I always make sure that our bikes are secure then look around for others who may need help. And indeed, I helped a Polish guy and his son. He really had no idea what he was doing and with his permission made sure his bike was not going to move. For my efforts, he promised me a beer, which I promised to accept.
We then went up, way up, to our cabin directly over the stern/bow and a porthole facing forward. A massive bonus, very cool!
Then out on the deck to meet the guys. As we thought duty-free would be closed, we bought 2 beers (at €6 each) Costa came up, just in-time to see us pay. Duty-free was indeed open, so Scott headed down to grab a case. We sat out till around 0200 and then went to bed.

We almost missed them

02 July

Up late the next day, around 1030. First it was off to the pool, hot-tub and sauna then onto lunch. Directly after lunch, we grabbed our beers and started drinking.  Coincidentally, waiting in line for beers I bumped into the Polish guy I'd help secure his bike, he honoured his beer debt and sat down for a chat. It turned out he was a lawyer and he was travelling with his son, nice guy.
So, we all drank till quite late and played dice again, it's a good time filler.
Some of the guys had booked an outside hot-tub from 2200 - 2300, but we decided just to chill, drink and eat hot-dogs. Eventually heading to bed around 2230.

03 July

Up relatively early, 0700 and out of the cabin by 0830, we took our bags into the stairwell then back up to deck 8 for tea/coffee and a catch-up. We berthed on-time and headed down to the bikes, freed ours and then the Pole's. We disembarked and headed for the servo at the beginning of the E45, the state of Europe.  We met up with Karsten, Costa, French Jeff, the "gays" two english guys travelling in a pink Land Rover, A couple of girls from Switzerland (Carina and Maron), A french girl and Ju. We had breakie with our guys then it was a long goodbye, photos, exchange of numbers etc. We hit the road around 1015.
Once on the road, We were travelling with Karsten and Costa, I took the lead per usual and we rolled down the E45. It was a srtange feeling being back on a road with a speed limit of 130 km/h.  Karsten needed fuel after about 100km and Costa wasn't too happy travelling 130, his bike was dancing across the road. For the remainder of the ride, we travelled between 110 and 120 and all was fine.  We rode together for about 250 km and left the Autobahn near Horsens, I led the guys to a petrol station near Ossur's and we said our final goodbyes. 5 minutes later we reached Ossur's and were greeted by Ann (his wife) and Sigmund (his son).  After a few ciggies and a catch-up, I got started on the bikes.  I removed the brakes and wheels from Claudia (my bike), once dismantled we took the wheels and new tyres (these had arrived while we were in Iceland) to the wheel guying the next village, he works from home. He promised to have them done by tomorrow arvo (I had hoped today), Our plan has been pushed back by one day but on the plus side, we get to spend more time with Ossur and his family.  When we got back, I got stuck into Scott's bike and dismantled the LHS switch cluster and began the repair on the cut wires, I also connected the GS-911 to check the ABS and other faults.   Once I'd soldered the wires (indicator and horn) the ABS appeared to test OK. I cleared any fault codes, test rode the bike and it was as good as new again. It took some time, but with the right tools anything is repairable.
In the evening we ate with the family, traditional Danish fare. Yoghurt/sour milk with crushed, dried bread and muesli. It was awesome and just what we needed.  We sat around catching up till around 2200 then bed. Ossur and Ann get up around 0400 for work, so we decided to join them too.
